Real Name: Elizabeth "Bette" Kane
Occupation: Student, professional tennis player, crimefighter
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 123 lbs.
Eyes: Green
Hair: Blonde
First Appearance: as Flamebird - Secret Origins #3(1989)
Group Affiliations: Titans West (disbanded), Titans LA (existed briefly), Teen Titans (as seen in 52)
History: Gifted with beauty and talent at an early age Bette Kane grew up surrounded by the adulation of others. As a beauty pageant winner since the age of five, a champion tennis player while still in her teens, and an Olympic level gymnast and swimmer, Bette grew bored at times by all the attention. Fiercely competitive and having excelled at every goal she set out to achieve, Bette began to look for a new challenge.

That challenge became Robin, the Teen Wonder. Bette had harbored a crush on Robin since childhood, but her many fan letters to him had gone unanswered. When she turned sixteen, Bette decided it was time to meet Robin on his own terms. With time and research she donned a red and gold costume (similar to Robin's) and adopted the identity of Flamebird. In the beginning Flamebird had a few high profile exploits, but they failed to catch Robin's attention. Not getting any closer to Robin, Bette hung up her Flamebird persona and concentrated more on her schooling. After graduating from high school Bette realized that nothing came close to the challenges of her crime fighting alter-ego and resumed her Flamebird career. [Note: The timeframe of when the original Teen Titans and Titans West may be altered due to the CRISIS].
It was not long until Flamebird would team-up with other teen costume heroes against the threat of a super-villain calling himself Mr. Esper. This confrontation leads to the formation of Titans West. It also leads to a team-up with the Teen Titans and Bette achieving her longtime goal of meeting Robin. The meeting was bittersweet as Robin and the rest of the Teen Titans gave her and Titans West the cold shoulder. With little acknowledgement by the east coast team and organizational problems within the group, Titans West soon disbanded.
Not use to failure Bette became unsure of herself and ventured out as Flamebird less often. A recent confrontation with Nightwing (formerly Robin) has forced Flamebird to reexamine who she is and her goals. It ignited within Bette a new sense of strength and direction...that of a true hero. She next struck up residence with Gar Logan, also known as Beast Boy. The two of them put together a new team of heroes called Titans L.A. However, due to lack of commitment by most members, Titans L.A. ended before it ever began. Bette has since moved on to juggle a promising hero career, her degree work at UCLA and a professional tennis career.
Due to Infinite Crisis, Flamebird is believed to be the Earth-2 counterpart of Bat-Girl (Betty Kane) of Earth-1. Because of the ramifications of the new Crisis, Flamebird was chosen over Bat-Girl to exist on the 'New' Earth. Flamebird served shortly as a member of the Teen Titans during the year long gap revealed in the series 52.
Note: A great amount of uncertainty now looms over the identity of Flamebird. Questions remain on whether she is related the new Batwoman and the Kane Family of Gotham City and whether her 'Aunt Kathy' refers to heiress and circus owner Kathy Kane believed killed by the League of Assassins.
